Schneider Electric has been in the news recently. With the vision of being a global knowledge leader around the intelligent building of the future, Schneider has acquired companies in many sectors including physical security and energy.
Schneider's acquisition of Pelco, was particularly significant. Historically, large global companies look to leverage product lines, customer bases, and established sales and service organizations. All of these converge around technology adoption cycles. Three in particular create a unique opportunity for Schneider's Pelco and their partners: Network Topology (servers, routers, networks, and storage), the convergence of building management and security, and the role and value of IP Video as a critical decision trigger for enterprise risk mitigation.
Pelco has traditionally worked through a large distribution network, and we had the opportunity to speak with one of its long time partners in the Pacific Northwest: GP Marketing's Gary Ponto.
"The ASG Summit's theme: ‘The Great Conversation', underlines the need for interoperability between systems", said Ponto. "Pelco's message is: ‘We are open to integration.' Pelco defined the analog era of camera technology. Now it is helping to define the digital era."

One of the examples Ponto sited was the announcement by Cisco and Pelco to leverage their broad product lines, client base and their current distribution model to create momentum in the IP Video market, with an emphasis and attention on the IT department's new role in assisting Physical Security in deployments.
