Blaine School District's Challenge

Operating on a standard lock and key security system, the Blaine School District was experiencing a variety of challenges that are very common to those in the K-12 Education environment. However, a newly funded construction program finally gave them the opportunity to solve some of these challenges including:

  • Ongoing problems with unauthorized building entry due to a lack of key control
  • Outside user groups requiring temporary access to school district buildings
  • Difficulty allowing teachers, administrators, and visitors to have access to secured areas while ensuring those areas remained secure
  • Difficulty securing a classroom in an emergency without putting the teacher or students in harm’s way.

Learn how ASG helped Blaine School District improve their security through simple access control strategies that provide better protection for students and teachers alike – all while working within a very limited budget.

Highline School District's Challenge

The Security & Safety Department is tasked with ensuring that everyone in the District is aware of and following the same security and safety policies as well as putting the people with the right knowledge and experience in the position of creating and directing those policies.

The more daunting challenge, one common to many centralized security departments, is ensuring that the technology being used throughout the organization dovetails with the goals and processes of the organization. Highline has two unique challenges in terms centralized Security & Safety Department.of technological alignment:

1 - The District’s primary method of access control is key-based. Because of this, key control is a consistent challenge as teachers, faculty, and staff (permanent and part time) use one or more keys to access the buildings, classrooms, storage facilities, workrooms, etc. Replacing lost and stolen keys can be expensive and disruptive, requiring replacement of cores and cylinders and issuance of new keys to a large number of key holders.

2- As the District lacks the funding to implement an single district-wide security system, each campus maintains its own independent system. These systems often use different technologies depending on the location and age of the campus.

North Idaho College's Challenge

Thanks to an increasing student body, NIC made the decision to expand the campus through the construction of a new Health and Sciences Building. NIC soon found that the current access control system could not be expanded to include the new building.

They needed a single, campus-wide solution that could replace their current system as well as seamlessly integrate with the existing student enrollment database and expand with future growth.
