A Seat at the Table

As most of you know, I believe that trust must be earned. I have built a company
around that premise and I have challenged our employees and our partners to translate this into their strategies, tactics and metrics.
The Security Executive Council recently sponsored a forum within the Security Technology Executive magazine. http://www.securityinfowatch.com/Security+Executive+Council/solutions-snapshot-august-2011
The question they posed to a group that included a manufacturer, two integrators and one of their faculty members was: "What can Security product and service providers do to show the true value of their offerings at a Board of Directors level?"
I was included in the group. I would like to hear from all of you what your thoughts are.
Expanding on my answer in the magazine: I would urge all of you to really test the methodology of your service providers. That is, do they have a formal process for engaging your company that provides the degree of business and security intelligence needed to effectively drive value into your organization? Do they have defined roles within that process? Are those roles seen as professional disciplines with ongoing training as well as the capturing of the lessons learned from every action?
The professionalism of our industry will increase in direct proportion to our industry redefining what is valuable and driving new behavior throughout the ecosystem.
