ImplementationYou were able to get your project approved!  Your presentation was accepted!  The funding has been approved!  All of these statements are good in and of themselves, but we have all been there after these words have been announced.  The reality of actually having to do what you say you are going to do and make it successful becomes reality.  Put the PowerPoint slides away and get ready for the rubber to meet the road – implementation!

Implementing a program, project or process is absolutely crucial to any business.  Doing it well means that you have more political capital to make greater changes, increase the chance for more business and retain more customers.  If it is done poorly, or for that matter wrong, you could lose customers and potential future projects.

Robert Birley is the Director of Engineering for ASG has implemented some of ASG’s largest projects and has some good insights on how to manage expectations, create a clear project or program model and ultimately implement the plan you sold!

• What is the first thing you should do when approaching a project?
• How can your clients work best with service vendors (such as ASG) to ensure good project planning and execution?
• How do you handle customers, clients and internal peers when problems arise?
• In what ways can you measure the success of a project?
• What are three things to avoid as you work through a project?
• One word that spells success for projects and why?

Our next post will have Robert’s answers to these questions. Come back to learn how you can solve one of business’s largest problems: implementation!
