The Tool Problem

If your company is anything like ASG then you have people continually knocking down your door wanting to sell you the latest gadget or application. I am going to guess that they all aptly explain why you need their shiny application and what problem it can solve in a two minute elevator speech that blurs your vision.
But the real question is: do you need it? What critical business function will it solve? Is that business function critical to the success of your organization’s product, service or procedures?
More often than not, I find that companies are attracted to applications that don’t really help their critical core processes such as data management, collaboration or customer response management. We will discuss this topic with Scott Schmidt, Vice President of Engineering for Aronson Security Group and find out what applications he thinks customers should look at to not only increase their efficiency but also an organization’s success in the marketplace.
Some of the questions we will ask him are:
• What applications have you seen work best to help increase the efficiency of a company? Why?
• What emerging technologies do you think will change the way companies do business? How can someone adopt this now?
• How do you evaluate new technologies for your clients?
• How do you measure the value of a technology once you have deployed it?
Watch for Scott’s responses to these questions in our next posting. Until then, have you discovered and/or deployed a business changing technology? We’d love to hear what tools are making your business successful.
