A Beginners Guide to the Great Conversation
Posted on Fri, Mar 12, 2010
Welcome to the Great Conversation! If you're new to blogging on the internet, this post will help to give you a beginner's knowledge of what capabilities the Great Conversation Blog has as well as how to use the various features.
There are three part to the Great Conversation that you should know about: (1) Posts, (2) Comments, and (3) Tags.
Posts
The Posts on the Great Conversation make up the main body of information that you'll find here. When you go to the main page of the Blog, you'll see a list of all the Posts that have been created for the Blog. Each post is written by a single author who is typically one of ASG's Subject Matter Experts or one of the ASG Security Summit & Expo's speakers or thought leaders. You can think of each post as a conversation starter or ice breaker. Each post is about a single topic and usually gives you some form of information, education, or strategies based on the author's experience and viewpoint. Each post has its own page on the Blog, so you can share that post with your friends and colleagues by sharing its URL or web address.
Readers of the Great Conversation Blog will not be able to create their own Posts, however; if you have an idea for a Post or conversation topic that you would like to talk about, please email your idea to the Great Conversation Blog Editor at editor@aronsonsecurity.com.
Comments
Anyone who reads one of the Posts on the Great Conversation Blog can leave behind their own Comments to that individual Post. At the bottom of each Post, you'll find a form to fill in your information along with your Comment. This Comment could be a question about the topic of the Post, a story about your own experiences with the topic of the Post, or even a critique of the Post Author's ideas or strategies. We encourage everyone to leave behind their Comments to further the conversation, but we do ask that you be civil. Each Comment goes through a review process to ensure that spam, inflammatory posts, and off-topic comments do not detract from the conversation. Therefore, it may take a day or so to see your Comment appear.
Tags
Tags are used to categorize or sort the Posts. This feature allows you to easily search the Blog and see other Posts that are about the same topic. Tags are listed at the bottom of each post and can be considered as key words or topics of what the post is about. To see more posts about that topic, you can either click on the Tag at the end of the post, or go to our Topics Page to browse by topic.
For example, if we were to create a Post about our recent ASG Security Summit & Expo that talked about Mike Howard's speech, we would place the "ASG Security Summit & Expo" and "Mike Howard" Tags on the Post. If you wanted to see other Posts about Mike Howard, you could click on the "Mike Howard" Tag and you'll be directed to a page that lists every Post with the "Mike Howard" Tag.
